With the recent passing of Gabrielle Jungels-Winkler ’72, the visual arts lost a stalwart and vigorous proponent.
Through her philanthropic foundations, the Scripps alumna spent decades supporting education through the visual arts.

She had a strong appreciation for history, the arts, cultures, literature and languages: the very subjects that are the essence of a Scripps education. Her generosity to Scripps College is known to all who visit the campus and see the gracefully-designed residence hall which bears her name.
She is also renowned for the numerous scholarships and faculty endowments she has provided to Scripps. Her most recent gift of three endowments will do much to support the arts and humanities at the College. Three women currently fill these positions: Dr.
