Biography of Anita Mui

Anita Mui Yim-fong was born on October 10, 1963, in Hong Kong.

She was the youngest of five children in her family and was left fatherless at the age of five. Growing up, Mui faced many hardships and difficulties, but she never let them hinder her dreams of becoming a star. She dropped out of school and started performing pop songs and Chinese opera in theaters and on the streets to support her family.

Together with her older sister, Anita agreed to perform in any nightclub to make a living.

In 1982, Mui participated in her first singing talent competition, the New Talent Singing Awards, and emerged as the undeniable winner, beating over 3,000 contestants with her performance of "The Windy Season." Despite the competition's name implying the discovery of "new talent," Anita had already been singing in clubs and on stage for ten years.
